Welcome to MagnoliaLodge, a place where heritage meets harmony. I’m Dr. SumantRawat, and this home has been part of my family for generations. Once the ancestral residence of the Rawat family, the house carries within its walls countless memories and stories. When my siblings and I decided to breathe new life into it, our vision was simple—to create a space that remained true to its roots while offering the warmth, comfort, and openness of a modern home.
That vision became MagnoliaLodge—a homestay designed not just for our family, but for travellers from around the world who wish to experience the beauty, charm, and serenity of Almora. We wanted to share the magic of this place—its stillness, its stories, and its soul—with everyone who visits.
Having been born and raised in Almora, I have always been inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds us. One of my earliest fascinations was with the local birdlife. Even today, mornings at Magnolia Lodge begin with the melodious calls of the Kalchoon, or blue Himalayan whistling thrush, darting among the branches, its distinctive whistle echoing through the hills. Another familiar sound is the duet of the Mewli, or hill barbet—one calling, the other answering—until their chorus fades into the quiet of the forest.

What guests find most enchanting, however, is the serenity of Magnolia Lodge itself. From the south-facing verandah, the twinkling lights of Almora town create a magical view by night, while early mornings reveal a pink-hued glimpse of Chaukhamba Peak rising above a sea of mist in the Kosi River valley—a sight that never fails to inspire awe.
